Priorities for Our Community
-
HCAD should ensure that properties are appraised accurately and consistently, regardless of whether the property belongs to a working-family homeowner, small business, major corporation, or high-value property owner. Jesus will support rigorous appraisal standards designed to ensure that property values reflect applicable market conditions and the same rules are applied across the county.
-
Large corporations and owners of high-value commercial properties have a significant role in Harris County's property-tax system. Jesus will support careful scrutiny of major property valuations and work to ensure that substantial property owners are assessed according to the same standards as everyone else, without shifting an undue share of the tax burden onto other taxpayers.
-
Property owners have a right to challenge their appraisals, and those protests should receive serious, impartial consideration. Jesus will support an appraisal protest process in which Appraisal Review Board members are properly qualified, prepared, and able to evaluate evidence carefully and independently.
-
Property appraisals affect the tax base that supports local governments and public services throughout Harris County. Jesus will work to ensure that the appraisal process provides local governments with accurate information while respecting taxpayers' rights and maintaining the integrity of the appraisal system.
-
HCAD should be an institution that taxpayers can understand and trust. Jesus will advocate for greater transparency around appraisal practices, meaningful public accountability, and clear communication with homeowners, businesses, and communities. His goal is an appraisal district where decisions are based on evidence, established standards, and the public interest rather than political or financial pressure.
